DIGITIZING THE ACCOMMODATION DIRECTORY IN VIECHTACH: VISIBILITY FOR 87 HOSTS AT THE CLICK OF A BUTTON

HOW THE CITY OF VIECHTACH AND PASSION4IT GMBH SUCCESSFULLY IMPLEMENTED AN INNOVATIVE PROJECT FOR THE DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION OF HOST VISIBILITY AND THE ENTIRE IT INFRASTRUCTURE

Background and starting point In October, the project kicked off: the City of Viechtach joined forces with PASSION4IT GmbH to take the next major step toward a digital future. The initial focus was on digitizing the accommodation directory — a passion project aimed at increasing the visibility and bookability of regional lodgings. Before the project, only 5 to 10 out of 86 hosts were visible online. Now all 87 hosts can be found and booked online at any time.

In parallel, Florian Laumer led the introduction of cybersecurity with a comprehensive Cyber Security Check and a phishing test to identify risks early and strengthen digital resilience. Subsequently, Florian Achatz took over the further development of the digital workplace in Viechtach — with a systematic rollout of Microsoft 365.

Project progress and collaboration The digitalization started deliberately low-threshold: with social media workshops for employees, hosts and local retailers. The goal was to build digital skills and create openness toward change. The first major project was the development of the online accommodation search, which now serves as the central platform for guest inquiries.

PASSION4IT acted as a dedicated digital partner — a role the City of Viechtach officials themselves chose to describe. This role represents individually tailored, collaborative support through every stage of the digitalization. The officials felt informed, involved and supported at every step.

Holistic digitalization — including administration and branch offices By now, the project extends far beyond the accommodation directory: together with PASSION4IT GmbH, the entire IT infrastructure of the city administration and its branch offices is being digitalized. The goal is to simplify processes, improve collaboration and enhance security. The introduction of Microsoft 365 is a central element — from email communication to teamwork in Teams.

Technical and organizational results The new cloud infrastructure, paired with accompanying IT security measures, has not only increased efficiency but also strengthened IT understanding across the team. The city administration benefits from modern working methods, better communication channels and enhanced security in the digital space. One particularly noticeable effect: digitalization has become noticeably more enjoyable for the employees — and has fostered a new team spirit.
