What the self-test asks about
Questions about the level of knowledge in your team, the actual use of AI, and the rules that apply to it in your company. Some of them target the competence requirement in Article 4 of the EU AI Act.
- Foundational knowledge in the team
- How well your team understands what AI can do and where its limits are. That is what the competence requirement in Article 4 refers to.
- Anchoring in the strategy
- Whether AI is a fixed part of your company strategy or whether individuals push ahead while everyone else watches.
- Rules and safe use
- How well your culture carries safe use and whether there are guidelines your people can orient themselves by.
- Training and ownership
- Whether there have already been training sessions or workshops and whether someone is named as the contact for AI.
- Actual usage
- How often AI tools run in daily work and which of them are genuinely in use. Including the ones nobody officially approved.
- Data foundation and processes
- How well your data is prepared for AI and whether processes have already been reviewed for AI potential.
- Effect and plans
- Whether AI has delivered anything for you so far and how ambitious your plans are for the next twelve months.

Common questions about the self-test
Is the self-test really free?
Yes. There is no paid tier, no gated section and no upsell at the end. We offer it because a first conversation with an assessment on the table runs considerably better than one without.
Does the test count as proof under the EU AI Act?
No. Article 4 requires that staff are sufficiently competent in dealing with AI, and that calls for training with a certificate of attendance. The self-test shows you how wide the gap to that point is, course by course.
Courses from the IT AcademyWho in the company should fill it in?
Someone with an overview of daily work in the team. Management, HR or IT ownership fit best. If assessments differ strongly across the company, that is a result too: fill it in twice and compare.
We do not use AI at all yet. Is the test still worth it?
Yes. Some of the questions target the prerequisites: data foundation, ownership and rules. Knowing those before the first tool arrives saves the clean-up work afterwards.
Why do you need my phone number and company?
Because otherwise your result cannot be put in context. The same level of competence means something different in a team of 30 than in a company of 600. The details go into our CRM, the specifics are in the privacy policy.

A stated score, your company’s classification in each of the five dimensions, and one first step per dimension. The evaluation appears in the browser immediately after submitting and can be printed. It is not proof under the AI Regulation, but it is a usable basis for deciding where training should start.
Which five dimensions are assessed?
Knowledge and training, strategy and ownership, culture and daily use, data and processes, and impact and ambition. The last two are why questions about training alone fall short: a company can be trained and still fail to move, because the data situation or the ownership is missing.
How does the self-test differ from the free AI compliance compass of the Bundesnetzagentur?
The compass answers a legal question: whether a specific AI system falls under the AI Regulation and which risk category it belongs to. Our self-test assesses the state of play inside the company, meaning knowledge, responsibilities, data situation and actual everyday use. The two tools do not contradict each other, they answer different questions. Anyone wanting to organise the competence duty under Article 4 needs the answer to our question, not to the compass’s.

The self-test says where you stand. The Academy closes the gap it reveals: courses in units of fifteen to twenty minutes, with an exam, a certificate and automatic documentation of completions per person and module. That documentation is the part that counts for the evidencing question under Article 4.

After a training round and after every major tool rollout, so realistically once or twice a year. More often achieves nothing, because competence in a company does not shift in weeks. It makes sense to have the same group of people fill it in again, so the values stay comparable.
